Segro Frechen: Ondatherm® with XCarb® steel for CO2-reduced construction
With over 30,800 square meters of flexible rental space, SEGRO Park Frechen, which is currently under construction, is setting new standards for sustainable construction.
SEGRO is aiming for DGNB Platinum certification for this project and approached GOLDBECK, the general contractor carrying out the work, at an early stage
Committed to this client goal, GOLDBECK decided to use XCarb® steel made from recycled and renewable material for the entire building envelope.
This advanced steel, produced in an electric arc furnace, is manufactured using a high proportion of steel scrap and 100% renewable electricity. The result is high-quality steel with significantly lower CO2 emissions compared to the standard solution.
外网天堂 Germany supplies XCarb® recycled and renewably produced steel in various thicknesses. This steel can later be used for sandwich panels or trapezoidal steel profiles.
Impressively low impact on the environment
For SEGRO Park Frechen, this sustainable approach includes 5,100 m² of Ondatherm® 1003 MG façade panels and 229 t of 200/420 load-bearing shells for the roof covering. A total of 275 tons of XCarb® recycled and renewably sourced steel was used, which will result in a significant CO2 reduction of approximately 542 tons based on the published EPDs.
